If you are ever looking for a clue as to what’s in store when you open a bottle of Rhône, look no further than the powerful, long, broad, meandering river itself. The wines produced here range from the beguilingly complex and long-lived to softer, day-to-day styles. Much of this diversity is to do with the grape varieties grown here; in the north it is all about Syrah, whereas in the south you start to see more blends and in particular the opulent, generous Grenache. One of the estates we source from, Domaine de l’Ocre Rouge, is actually situated in a corner between Provence, the Rhône and the Languedoc. This wonderful setting means that the range of varieties produced here is more diverse than you might expect. However, all of these wines are undeniably of the very highest quality as prevalent throughout each is a breadth, finesse and complexity that is mimetic of the great river itself.
