Francois’ story has the making of a great book. Or maybe even a film. A jazz musician and accordian tuner his taste buds are as finely tuned as his musical ear. He travelled to New York where he fell in love and married. Both lovers of natural wine they began an import business that continues to this day (even though the marriage has not). Keen to understand everything about wine he signed up for a winemaking course in Beaune when the business began and it was here that he was introduced to some of France’s leading natural wine makers.
Through contacts in Burgundy he learnt of an overgrown vineyard (about the size of a football pitch!) that would have been best described as wasteland and he made an offer to the owner. The deal was done and François began his life as a winemaker.
His plantings include aligoté, pinot noir, pinot buerrot (pinot gris), césar and abouriou – the latter two being historic, indigenous varieties.
The wines have no sulphites added at all and are bright, intense and hugely appealing. Quite unique, so not unlike the man himself.
