Vinci, Emmanuelle Vinci & Olivier Varichon

In 2000, Emmanuelle & Olivier purchased 7ha of vines spread throughout the heart of the Agly Valley. The isolated location of the vines between forest and steep rocky hills allows them to work in 'partnership' with the surrounding countryside. Emmanuelle and Olivier don?t use chemical fertilizers, weed killers, pesticides or any other synthetic molecule based product. Weeding is done manually and pruning is adapted to each individual vine tree. Their main focus is to help the vines to find their own balance between what they produce and the ground supporting them. Harvest takes place in the morning only, in small crates. Grapes are handpicked when they reach their utmost gustatory and phenolic maturity.

Côtes Catalanes, Inferno 2007, 75cl

Inferno is a 100% Grenache at 9HL/ha, scary. But the perfect harvest maturity of the Grenache and the cool soils give it a great balance.

Côtes Catalanes, Rafalot 2007, 75cl

120 year-old vines, 100 % Carignan, this is reputed to be the longest established grape in the Roussillon. The cool, shady ground extracts finesse and complexity, and the wine is intense, complex, with a look of darkest ink.

Côtes Catalanes, Coste 2005, 75cl

As dark and rich as any top end New World red. This is made on a minuscule scale with very old vines, and just over 2000 bottles are produced. A blend of Carignan and Mourvèdre.

Côtes Catalanes, Coyade 2006, 75cl

A vibrant blend of Macabeu, white Grenache and the rare white Carignan which almost totally disappeared in the 1970's to be replaced by Muscat. The grapes are crushed by feet and then vinified separately. Matured for ten months, this doesn't have the oxidative and sherry-like nutty character often found in white Grenache. The separate vinification of the grapes before blending brings wave after wave of different aromas: Marzipan, white flowers, blanched almonds and crème brulée. An oily, multi-faceted wine of great depth.

Domaine des Demoiselles, Isabelle Raoux & Didier Van Ooteghem

South of the medieval town of Perpignan is Tresserre where Domaine des Demoiselles is situated. It's one of these villages which seem to have sprung forth from a vineyard. Didier works in phytotherapy in the vines, Isabelle is in charge of the cellar and winemaking. Phytotherapy could be described as homeopathy applied to plants, an extreme form of organic winemaking.
